If there’s a bunch of time to kill before a flight?

I have an annual pass to Universal but I’m currently by the airport because everyone else flew out already.

You could go to the Dezer auto museum and see the car I attempted to buy, before they decided it worked better mounted in the air as a display.

It sounds like it isn’t actually open yet? It sounds neat though.

Universal is probably closest, there’s not much by the airport, there’s a couple of waterparky type things but everything is gonna require a cab ride. You can rent a room in the airport hotel during the day, they have an outdoor pool you can watch the planes from. I think it’s $99 IIRC.

ETA:  you can usually rent a car for a day from MCO for $20-30 on weekends, which might be a better option than a cab.

Yeah, the hotel suggested Sunrail to downtown or some museums but it apparently doesn’t run on weekends.

Yeah I’d probably just find a cheap car rental and head for universal

Depends on what kind of stuff interests you and how much time you have to kill. I lived there for the better part of a decade, but I’ve been out west for 8 years, so things might have changed.

MCO is, unfortunately, kind of far from downtown. So you could Uber/Lyft, but it won’t be a super cheap ride. If you plan on going a few places, it might be cheaper just to rent a car for the day. Availability shouldn’t be a concern, as they have one of the largest rental fleets in the country there.

If I remember correctly, they have events at Orlando Speed World on Saturday evenings , out east of the city near the town of Bithlo. It’s a drag strip, but being Florida, there’s usually some interesting cars (and people) out there.

If you just want to grab a drink, downtown is your best bet. I used to frequent Independant Bar and BBQ Bar on Orange Ave as my most regular drinking establishments. World of Beer near Lake Eola is nice too if you want to have a tall brew (or three) and walk around the park and yell at the swans. Last time I visited, there was a new place called Joysticks Lounge that is a cool little bar full of retro arcade games. The Wall Street corridor is cool, with a cantina and a couple decent bars. Ten10 Brewing is just north of downtown and fairly new, but they make some pretty tasty beers.

If you’re in the mood for some good food, 4 Rivers BBQ is a local chain that makes amazing meals. The line can get long, but I’ve always felt it was worth the wait.

God, how I miss Publix. An Ultimate sub and a jug of peach iced tea, and I’m a happy man.

I did! But I found the crumm iest one in the city. Still got lunch there and a fruit cake to bring home (don’t judge me).

Sounds like it’s pending final permits. Same for the pedestrian bridge near Universal that’s been “almost open” for 9 months.

Sounds good. Let me know if you ever need any more suggestions. I’m only back there once every year or two, but I’ve stayed in touch with a few of my auto enthusiast friends between there and the Space Coast.

I don’t feel like driving half an hour to get groceries when there are dozens of grocery stores in between though. Definitely the best selection when it comes to alcohol though.

They did have them here, but I think they all closed.
